Congressman Adrian Smith (R-NE) and Congressman Mike McIntyre (D-NC) will serve as co-chairmen of the bipartisan Congressional Rural Caucus for the 113th Congress.

“Rural Americans need a strong voice in Congress to represent their interests, regardless of party or geography,” said Smith. “I look forward to continuing to serve as a co-chairman of the Congressional Rural Caucus, and am excited Congressman McIntyre will be working with me to raise awareness of and address the shared challenges of rural communities.”

Congressman Adrian Smith (R-NE) is asking the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to explain their decision to close 189 contract control towers, including the tower at the Central Nebraska Regional Airport in Grand Island.

Today, Congressman Adrian Smith (R-NE) participated in a House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Trade hearing on U.S. – India relations. During the hearing, Smith noted agricultural exporters in Nebraska’s Third District experience tariff and non-tariff barriers to trade in India. Smith asked Allen F. Johnson, who served as Chief Agricultural Negotiator in the Office of the United States Trade Representative from 2001 to 2005, to explain these barriers.

Congressman Adrian Smith (R-NE) today announced the winning artists of the 2013 Congressional Art Competition: An Artistic Discovery. Smith worked with the Nebraska Art Teachers Association to coordinate the competition.

The first place artwork will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. Smith will display the runners-up in his Washington, D.C. and Third District offices.

Congressman Adrian Smith (R-NE) issued the following statement after meeting with Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe:

“I appreciate the Postmaster General taking time to meet about the future of the Postal Service and issues of concern to Nebraska and rural Americans. USPS needs flexibility to address its enormous fiscal challenges, but cuts in service should not be aimed disproportionately at rural mail services. I hope the lines of communication will remain open, and USPS will consider the needs of small communities as it works to balance its budget.”

Congressman Adrian Smith (R-NE) and Congressman John B. Larson (D-CT) are encouraging members of the public, organizations, researchers and other stakeholders to submit comments, information, facts, and data relevant to the review of the current tax code being conducted by the House Committee on Ways and Means. Smith and Larson are leading the bipartisan Ways and Means Tax Reform Working Group on Financial Services.

American Conservative Union (ACU) Chairman Al Cardenas presented Congressman Adrian Smith (R-NE) the 2012 ACU Conservative Award. Smith was given the award in recognition his conservative voting record during the Second Session of the 112th Congress.
