In my role on the House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Trade, I continue to support policies which expand export opportunities for Nebraskans. Next month, I am hosting an event called Growing Nebraska Though Trade to facilitate an in-depth discussion on the impacts of trade agreements and ongoing work to open markets worldwide to rural America.

We have now successfully shifted the conversation in Washington from how much to spend to how much to cut. These decisions certainly are not easy, but there is an immense amount of work to do to bring our country's deficit under control.

Nebraska's Third District is the number one agriculture district in the country, but red tape churned out by the Obama administration threatens to undermine producers' success. While the rapid growth of government has impacted all economic sectors, many recent regulations have targeted American agriculture.

Inspired by the American Dream, entrepreneurship drives our country’s economic success. During National Small Business Week (May 4-8), we recognize the many contributions small businesses make to our communities and local economy.

Nebraskans are already wary of the red tape flowing from Washington. As the list of federal regulations under the Obama administration continues to grow, many people are concerned about the impacts these bureaucratic obstacles are having on their lives and livelihoods.

Nebraska’s pioneer history demonstrates what can happen when people are empowered by opportunity. Simplifying the tax code and pursuing domestic energy solutions are just two of many initiatives I am working on to encourage economic growth.
