It happens every two year. Another session of Congress is sworn-in. Sometimes the majority party retains control. Sometimes, like this year, the previous minority party wins enough seats to retake the majority.

Recently I was honored to be named a member of the House Committee on Ways and Means. Chaired by Rep. Dave Camp (R-MI), the committee has jurisdiction over Social Security and Medicare, tax and revenue legislation, and trade matters.

Americans sent an unmistakable message last month: Washington needs to cut spending and steward taxpayer dollars in a fiscally responsible manner.

Unfortunately, since 2007 our nation's agriculture producers have been waiting for action on a number of trade agreements which could strengthen our economy.

It's plain and simple - you deserve fiscal responsibility from your government. Unfortunately, Washington has failed to live up to this basic tenet.

Unfortunately, when Congress goes into extra innings it usually means bad things for American taxpayers.
