Smith Votes to Repeal Misguided Health Care Law

January 19, 2011

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Adrian Smith (R-NE) today voted for H.R. 2, legislation repealing the controversial health care law enacted last year. According to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, repeal will prevent $770 billion in tax increases and cut government spending by $540 billion.

The legislation passed by a vote of 245 to 189, and will await Senate action. During floor debate, Smith urged repeal of the law.

"Nebraskans deserve a commonsense approach to health care reform which avoids government bureaucracy and ensures competition, appropriate provider reimbursements, access for individuals, and cost savings.

"We simply can't afford the billions of new spending contained in this misguided health care law, and our small businesses - those very businesses we need to create jobs - can't afford the new taxes. This is the first step to replace ObamaCare with true health care reform which reduces costs and increases access for the American people," Smith said.
