Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. Adrian Smith (R-NE-03) and Sen. Pete Ricketts (R-NE) introduced legislation to designate the Postal Service building in Lexington, NE as the “Bill Barrett Post Office Building” in honor of the former Third District Congressman who passed away in 2016. Sen. Deb Fischer (R-NE) and Reps. Don Bacon (R-NE-02) and Mike Flood (R-NE-01) are original cosponsors of the legislation.

Rep. Adrian Smith (R-NE), released the following statement on ongoing severe wildfires in Central Nebraska:
“I continue to track conditions and response to wildfires in Lincoln, Custer, and Logan Counties. I commend Governor Pillen for his action to declare a state of emergency and mobilize National Guard resources. I also thank the Nebraska State Patrol and local responders for their efforts to ensure the safety of Nebraskans and bring the fires under control. I encourage local residents to remain alert and follow advisement from emergency management officials.”

Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. Adrian Smith (R-NE) reintroduced legislation to ensure federal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) funds are used to help the neediest Americans. The bill, the Targeting TANF to Families in Need Act, would direct states to ensure TANF assistance is targeted toward families with a household income below 200 percent of the federal poverty line. Currently no federal eligibility limits for TANF exist.

While inflation is no longer at nine percent, prices remain high, and the inflation rate remains double where it was when President Biden took office. According to Consumer Price Index analysis by the Joint Economic Committee, American families are facing an average of $11,400 more in annual expenses compared to prices when Joe Biden took office.
Washington, D.C. – Today, Reps. Adrian Smith (R-NE), Danny K. Davis (D-IL), and Randy Feenstra (R-IA) introduced the bipartisan Small Business Dependent Care FSA Opportunity Act. This legislation would create a new tax credit for small businesses with up to 100 employees for the start-up costs of offering Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (DCFSA) as an employee benefit.
