Washington, D.C. – Congressman Adrian Smith (R-NE) has been selected to serve as Ranking Member of the House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Select Revenue Measures, previously known as the Subcommittee on Tax Policy, which has jurisdiction over federal tax legislation and oversees tax policy implementation by the Internal Revenue Service.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – President Donald Trump on Thursday evening signed H.R. 4689, legislation championed by Congressman Adrian Smith (NE-03) and U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.) to rollback outdated regulations negatively affecting ag producers in the Nebraska panhandle. The bill passed the House of Representatives in September and the Senate in December.

As we prepare to join our families for Christmas, I am reminded of so many things we should be thankful for. This year will be our second Christmas with our young son, Zeke. Much of what I do in Washington is motivated by a desire to leave a healthy country for coming generations to inherit.

When I listen to former President Ronald Reagan's speeches, it is clear he was motivated by the same feelings. He always appealed for unity with a positive disposition, but he never shied away from directly addressing the American people.

Each November, we celebrate National Family Week to reflect on the importance of strong families in our communities. Whether through biological child birth, adoption, or foster care, children need families to provide the care and support necessary to become healthy and productive adults. It has been a cornerstone of my tenure in office to support federal policies which encourage the development of strong families.

On October 5th, President Trump signed into law the 2018 Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Reauthorization Act to update and authorize its activities for another five years. This is important to Nebraska's Third District because it contained a policy change whose specific aim is to support and revive commercial air service to our rural communities.

Commercial air service is vital to our nation’s economy and this is especially true in rural parts of the country. Regular flights into and out of geographically isolated regions like Nebraska’s Third District provide a lifeline connecting our community to the rest of the nation, which is absolutely necessary to a vibrant economy.

This would be an important first step toward rectifying our financial situation because we have a long road ahead if we intend to pay back the more than $21 trillion in debt we currently owe.
