Smith Votes for ‘No Budget, No Pay’ Legislation

January 23, 2013

Congressman Adrian Smith (R-NE) made the following statement today after passage of H.R. 325, the No Budget, No Pay Act:

“Passing a budget is among the most basic functions of government, yet the Senate has not fulfilled this responsibility in nearly four years. The legislation passed by the House today would require both the House as well as the Senate to pass an annual budget resolution before Members of Congress receive their paychecks. The House cannot act alone to address our long-term fiscal challenges, and I am hopeful the Senate will now join us in making the difficult but necessary decisions to reduce spending.”

Earlier today, Congressman Smith spoke in support of H.R. 325, the No Budget, No Pay Act on the House Floor. Video of the Congressman's remarks is available at: https://youtu.be/KdLJL92mlxg.
