Smith Votes to Defund Planned Parenthood and Protect Abortion Survivors

Congressman Adrian Smith (R-NE) released the following statement today after voting in favor of H.R. 3134, the Defund Planned Parenthood Act, and H.R. 3504, the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. Smith is a cosponsor of both bills.

“The videos demonstrating Planned Parenthood’s abortion procedures and harvesting of fetal body parts are abhorrent, and Nebraskans and people across the country are demanding this organization finally be held accountable,” Smith said. “Today’s vote to defund Planned Parenthood and redirect these funds to other women’s health providers is crucial not only to protect taxpayers from defying their consciences but to defend the sanctity of human life foundational to our country.

“Additionally, the House voted today to enforce stronger criminal penalties on abortion providers who deny medical care to children who survive an abortion procedure. It is chilling to have to pass legislation in America to prevent the murder of live-born babies, but these horrors are all too real. We cannot and will not stand silently by and allow these evils to continue in our country.”
