Smith Supports Request for Major Disaster Declaration

July 13, 2011

Washington, D.C. - Congressman Adrian Smith (R-NE) today sent a letter in support of Governor Dave Heineman’s request for President Obama to issue a Major Disaster Declaration for the areas affected by recent flooding and storms.

“State and local governments have worked diligently to ensure the safety of those affected and to recover from the drastic damages, but the scope is well beyond what they can handle,” Smith said. “I urge President Obama to quickly issue this declaration so Nebraska can fully rebuild and move forward as a stronger state.”

The declaration would provide federal assistance to communities and individuals in 29 counties. Counties from the Third District include Boyd, Buffalo, Cedar, Chase, Cheyenne, Dundy, Garden, Hamilton, Hayes, Knox, Lincoln, Logan, Phelps, Polk, Red Willow, Scotts Bluff, and York.
