Smith Statement On The Supreme Court’s Decision To Review Obama Health Law

November 14, 2011

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Adrian Smith (R-NE) today issued the following statement regarding the Supreme Court’s decision to review the constitutionality of the controversial health care law enacted last year:

“I welcome the Supreme Court’s decision to review the health care law,” said Smith. “It is an unprecedented and unconstitutional overreach by the federal government. This misguided piece of legislation is a legitimate threat to the quality of health care and individual liberty of Nebraskans and all Americans. As the Supreme Court hears this case, I will continue to push to repeal and replace this law with market-based reforms which preserve the doctor-patient relationship and actually lower costs.”

In November of 2011, Smith signed an Amicus Brief to the Supreme Court asking it agree to hear the case to consider the constitutionality of the law. Smith is a cosponsor of H.R. 2, which repeals the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. H.R. 2 passed the House on a bipartisan vote of 245-189 and is awaiting action in the Senate.
