Smith Statement on President Trump's First State of the Union Address
Congressman Adrian Smith (R-NE) released the following statement this evening in response to President Donald Trump’s first State of the Union address.
“President Trump delivered a strong report on what has been accomplished in his first year and his goals for our country moving forward,” Smith said. “Tax reform is already delivering, and I believe these positive impacts are just the start of the long-term economic growth we will see under the new tax code.
“As chairman of the Ways and Means Human Resources Subcommittee, I appreciated the President’s comments on the need to focus on workforce development so every American can experience the dignity of work. With tax reform leading to more jobs and a greater demand for qualified workers, we are eager to work with the Trump administration to help more Americans achieve independence by getting off the sidelines and into the workforce.
“President Trump laid out many issues we need to address, from immigration to infrastructure, but he – along with the inspiring American heroes who were guests at tonight’s State of the Union – reaffirmed we have every reason to be optimistic about what’s ahead for our great country.”
