Smith Statement on Budget Agreement

April 9, 2011

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Adrian Smith (R-NE) issued the following statement in reaction to passage of the short-term government funding legislation which passed the U.S. House of Representatives shortly after midnight.

"I am pleased we reached a bipartisan agreement to fully fund our troops and prevent a lapse in appropriations while agreeing to a broader framework of historic spending cuts to begin getting our fiscal house in order," Smith said. "However, we are not across the finish line yet. We must quickly act to pass the longer-term solution so businesses, both large and small, have the certainty they need to create jobs and fuel economic growth. The American people expect us to change the status quo, stop spending money we do not have, and fund the government for the rest of this fiscal year."

The short-term resolution, which included $2 billion in spending cuts, funds the government through April 15, 2011.
