Smith Statement on Biden Border Announcement
Washington, D.C. – Rep. Adrian Smith (R-NE), released the following statement after the Biden administration issued an executive order suspending admittance of illegal immigrants seeking asylum at the southern border, effective upon recording of a 7-day average of 2,500 illegal crossings.
"Pres. Biden’s border announcement confirms what House Republicans have been saying since we passed H.R. 2: the President can and must do more to enforce our laws and secure the border. Biden's response to this crisis has been feckless, and this order is too little, too late. There are correct and incorrect ways to apply for asylum, and illegally crossing our border between ports of entry is always the incorrect way. Serious action to address our southern border would resume wall construction, reinstate Remain in Mexico, and end catch-and-release. Telling illegal crossers that what they are doing is just fine as long as we don’t exceed 900,000 of them in a year is not serious."
