Smith Receives Taxpayers Friend Award
Washington, D.C. – The National Taxpayers Union (NTU) today awarded Congressman Adrian Smith (R-NE) with its "Taxpayers'' Friend Award" award for consistently voting to reduce and control the burden on American taxpayers.
"With Tax Day around the corner, it is clear the tax burden on Nebraska families, workers, and job creators is unfair," Smith said. "I was pleased to receive this award, but there is still a lot of work left to do to make our tax system fairer and simpler because we cannot tax and spend our way to prosperity."
NTU annually scores Members of Congress on every roll call vote affecting fiscal policy. In 2010, NTU based its scores on 165 roll call votes in the U.S. House of Representatives.
"As history has shown, bipartisan tax reform, like President Reagan did, helps spur our economy because it puts taxpayers first - not the government," Smith commented. "I look forward to working with my colleagues to achieve fundamental tax reform which will help taxpayers, shrink the size of government, and get our economy moving again."
Smith sits on the Committee on Ways and Means which enables him to serve Nebraskans through engagement on critical issues including tax reform, trade agreements and health care reform.
