Smith Reaction to President Obama's Comments on Israel

Washington, D.C. - Congressman Adrian Smith (R-NE) issued the following reaction to President Obama's comments calling on Israel to agree to return to 1967 borders as a condition to moving forward with peace negotiations with the Palestinians.

"Israel long has been our nation's best friend in the Middle East, providing an important island of stability in an otherwise hostile region. The President's comments today undercut the safety and security of our ally instead of applying much-needed pressure to the Palestinian Authority to recognize Israel's right to exist. Straining our alliance with Israel will do nothing to advance the cause of peace in the region and threatens our national security."
