Smith: Proposed Budget Honest with America

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Adrian Smith (R-NE) today issued the following statement in reaction to the Budget Resolution introduced by Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI).

"Chairman Ryan's budget is honest with the American people about the difficult decisions which lie ahead. Just like families do every month, it is time for government to tighten its belt and balance its budget. This proposal, which is being met with bipartisan support, would lift the crushing burden of debt by cutting spending and balance the budget without raising taxes.

"But this conversation is about more than reducing the national debt. It is about restoring opportunity for future generations who deserve to be free from a life in debt. Our responsibility to the American people is to work together to tackle the big problems we face today or face bigger problems tomorrow. I look forward to working with my colleagues to help pave a path to prosperity which cuts wasteful spending, keeps taxes low, and reduces the size of government."
