Smith Congratulates Sallie and Alan Atkins on their Introduction to the Nebraska Cattlemen Hall of Fame

December 9, 2020

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Adrian Smith (R-NE), released the following statement after Sallie and Al Atkins were inducted into the Nebraska Cattlemen Hall of Fame on December 4, 2020.

Sallie and Al were innovators on their ranch near Halsey, Nebraska, where they raised commercial Angus crossbred cattle and served their community and state in many leading roles in the agriculture industry.

Sallie previously served as Agriculture Director in Smith's office, where she led engagement efforts on statewide agriculture issues and served as the liaison for Third District producers, agriculture groups, and other stakeholders.

Sallie has more than 30 years of experience in Nebraska agriculture, including having served as regional director of membership for the Nebraska Farm Bureau. She has also served as executive director and chairman of the Nebraska Beef Council, vice president of Nebraska Cattlemen, and board chairman of the Nebraska Agricultural Leadership Council. Additionally, she has been active in Nebraska 4-H and FFA. Her work on the Nebraska State Fair earned her the 2011 Nebraska Volunteer of the Year award.

"Sallie and Al have been staples of Nebraska agriculture for a long time," said Smith. "I have had the pleasure of visiting their β€˜AL Ranch.' It is an impressive operation. Few Nebraskans have had the impact on Nebraska agricultural that Sallie and Al have, and I couldn't think of a more fitting recognition than the Nebraska Cattlemen Hall of Fame. I thank them for all they have done for our great state."
