Smith Celebrates National Agriculture Week

March 15, 2011

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Adrian Smith (R-NE) made the following statement in support of National Agriculture Week, which is celebrated from March 13-19, 2011.

"National Agriculture Week gives us the opportunity to recognize Nebraska's hard working farmers and ranchers, while also reminding us of the significance of the agriculture industry to our state, nation, and world," Smith said. "Nebraskans should take time this week to thank those who supply the food, fuel and fiber on which we depend. The next decade offers great opportunity for our agricultural industry, particularly as we work to open access to new markets for our agriculture producers."

Smith serves on the Committee on Ways and Means, which has jurisdiction over pending free trade agreements. The Committee on Ways and Means continues to press for the agreements with Colombia, Panama, and South Korea to be considered by July 1, 2011.
