Smith Again Votes to Keep Government Open
Congressman Adrian Smith (R-NE) issued the following statement today after voting in favor of the House Continuing Resolution, which would fund the government through December 15, 2013 at current levels, delay the individual mandate included in the President’s health care law for one year, and end special treatment for Members of Congress and staff:
“The American people expect leaders in Congress and the President to work together to keep the government open. Republicans have reached across the aisle in an attempt to prevent a shutdown. While we would prefer full repeal and defunding of Obamacare, we are willing to settle for a one year delay of the individual mandate and to end the special exemptions for Members of Congress. This approach is good policy, fair, and reasonable.
“Unfortunately, the President and the Senate Majority Leader have simply refused to negotiate. Time is running out, and I am hopeful we are able to resolve this impasse as soon as possible.”
