Honoring America's Heroes
Land of the free because of the brave. As America celebrates its 250th anniversary, these words continue to ring true, reminding us of the courage, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication of those who defended our freedoms. This Veterans Day, on November 11th, we will come together to honor the brave men and women who served our country. Their selfless service reminds us that the freedoms we cherish today are made possible by the sacrifices of generations of American heroes.
As the grandson of a World War II Navy Seabee, I am humbled by the challenges faced by my grandfather’s generation and by all who answered the call to defend democracy here at home and around the world. His service, like that of so many others, was never something he sought recognition for, but it has forever shaped our family and how I see this country.
I know I can never fully repay what veterans like my grandfather have given to our nation, but I will never stop saying thank you. That is why I joined my colleagues in introducing a resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives to honor the service and sacrifice of America’s veterans this Veterans Day.
For many veterans, their service does not end when they return to civilian life. Across Nebraska’s Third District, veterans continue to fulfill a lifelong commitment to serving others. They lead area organizations, support local charities, mentor young Americans, assist fellow veterans, and strengthen the communities they call home. Their example reminds us that service does not end when the uniform comes off. The values reinforced by military service—including integrity, responsibility, teamwork, and love of country—continue to strengthen our communities every day. By sharing their experience and leadership, veterans help prepare the next generation to meet future challenges with courage and purpose.
In Congress, I am committed to supporting our nation’s veterans not just in words but through meaningful action. If you or a veteran you know is having difficulty accessing earned benefits or navigating the Department of Veterans Affairs, please reach out to my Grand Island office at (308) 384-3900. My staff and I will do everything we can to cut through the red tape and get you the answers you need.
Veterans Day is an opportunity for us to recognize those who have served our country and our state with dignity and honor. The world’s greatest experiment continues to endure and thrive because of the extraordinary sacrifices generations of veterans have made. This Veterans Day, I hope every Nebraskan will join me in thanking our nation’s heroes and taking the time to show them our sincere gratitude.
