Helping Young Nebraskans Discover Their Next Opportunity
From a young age, I have been fortunate enough to have a community of people who encouraged me to take risks, explore new ideas, and pursue every opportunity available. Their support helped shape my path and opened doors I never could have imagined.
Now, as a member of Congress, I am working to return the favor by creating opportunities for young leaders across our state. One way I do this is by supporting programs that help students turn their curiosity into action, their ideas into real-world impacts, and their potential into reality.
For students with a creative spark, the 2026 Congressional Art Competition offers a chance to have your work recognized on a national stage. Every year, individuals from across the nation submit artwork that reflects their unique perspective, creativity, and vision. This competition provides an exciting opportunity for young artists to see their work displayed in our nation’s capital and I encourage interested high school students to visit my website to learn how to submit their work before the deadline on Friday, March 27th.
My Youth Advisory Council gives high schoolers across the Third District the chance to share their opinions, thoughts, and concerns with me about local and federal issues throughout the school year. This is a great way for civic-minded individuals to get involved and ensure that their voices are heard in Washington and at home. Those interested should be on the lookout for next year’s application in the coming months.
For those drawn to service, my upcoming Military Academy Service Days provide guidance on nominations and insight into life at a U.S. service academy. Nebraska has a long tradition of serving our country, and these events give students the information and support they need to take the first steps toward a life of leadership and service. I encourage all students interested in attending one of my upcoming Military Service Academy Days to reach out to my Grand Island office to learn more.
Finally, if you are interested in government and public service, I encourage you to visit my website to learn more about my internship program. In my Washington, D.C. office, interns assist with legislative research, attend congressional hearings, and help constituents navigate federal programs. In my district offices, interns support outreach, assist with constituent services, and learn how a congressional office operates every day. These internships are a great way to earn college credit and gain real-world experience at the same time.
Nebraska’s next generation is brimming with talent, creativity, and a commitment to service. Just as so many challenged me to surpass the status quo, I am committed to empowering our state’s future leaders to do the same.
These programs are not just experiences, but stepping-stones aimed at helping young leaders discover their potential, build skills, and make a tangible impact in their own community. If you or anyone you know is interested in any of these programs, please visit my website or contact one of my offices to learn more.
