Growing the Good Life

Competition challenges us to be better. It fuels innovation, encourages new ideas, pushes us to new heights, and creates opportunities for people and communities to thrive. In today’s fast-moving economy, where nearly anything can be accessed in a matter of minutes, competition is stronger than ever. 

If we are not growing, chances are we are falling behind. Right now in Congress, I am focused on how we can spur competition, strengthen local economies, and ensure that the Good Life continues to grow and thrive for generations to come. 

Recently, I joined my Nebraska congressional colleagues at the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce, Nebraska Chamber of Commerce & Industry, and Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce’s 17th Annual Federal Legislative Summit. During our panel discussion we talked about how by working together, we can ensure that communities across our state remain competitive and are positioned to attract the investment, businesses, and jobs of tomorrow.

That work starts with sound economic policy. Last summer, as a senior member of the House Ways and Means Committee, I played a pivotal role in crafting and passing the Working Families Tax Cuts. This legislation delivered a stronger tax code that allows families to keep more of their hard-earned money, provides businesses with greater certainty, and creates an environment where investment and innovation can flourish. 

While we have made significant progress, I know more needs to be done. Companies making decades-long investments in machinery or equipment need to know that Washington will not constantly change the rules underneath them. Nebraska has an opportunity to compete for these investments, and I will continue to work to ensure that we provide the right environment to do so. 

I also had the opportunity to attend the ribbon cutting for the Taxiway Delta extension at Western Nebraska Regional Airport in Scottsbluff. At first glance, a taxiway may look like little more than pavement. In reality, it represents something much bigger: an investment in the future of western Nebraska and our entire state. 

Strong infrastructure connects communities to opportunity. It makes our airports safer and more efficient, supports businesses and agriculture, strengthens our transportation network, and ensures Nebraska can remain connected to the rest of the country and the world. 

Nebraska has everything we need to compete and win—we just have to continue creating the conditions that allow our people and businesses to succeed. From the decisions we make in Washington to the investments we make in communities across our state, our focus must remain on fostering an environment that is ready for the opportunities of tomorrow. 

That is how we grow the Good Life—not just for today, but for generations to come. I will continue working in Congress to advance policies that strengthen our economy, attract new investment, and make Nebraska an even better place to live, work, and raise a family.
