The Best Time of Year in the Good Life
Every year, thousands of Nebraskans from across our state make their way to Grand Island for the Nebraska State Fair. We may all come for different reasons, but for a few days each year, Nebraskans from all walks of life come together to celebrate the people, traditions, and industries that make our state exceptional.
From the smell of the latest fair food creations to the laughter coming from the midway, the Nebraska State Fair is filled with the sights and sounds that have become part of our state’s traditions. In the show barns, exhibitors spend early mornings and long days preparing their livestock, while families and friends gather for concerts, rodeos, or a night out and about. For many Nebraskans, these are the moments and memories that bring us back to the fair each year.
One of my favorite parts of the fair is seeing the hard work and dedication of our 4-H and FFA exhibitors pay off in the show ring. This year, I stopped by the sheep show and visited with exhibitors who have spent countless hours caring for their livestock and preparing for competition. I am always impressed by the discipline, work ethic, and dedication of these young Nebraskans. Their commitment to agriculture is a reminder that the future of our state’s number one industry is in good hands.
The State Fair also gives me an opportunity to hear directly from the producers who work every day to keep Nebraska agriculture strong. This year, I hosted a roundtable with producers from across Nebraska’s Third District to discuss the challenges facing our farmers and ranchers and how we can continue working together to strengthen our agricultural economy.
Those conversations are especially important as I work to ensure that Nebraska’s farmers and ranchers have the certainty and resources they need to succeed. In Congress, I will continue fighting for commonsense policies like the Working Families Tax Cuts, which delivered historic death tax relief and immediate equipment expensing to help producers invest in their operations and compete in today’s global economy.
However, what makes the State Fair special goes beyond the livestock barns, midway, or daily activities. It is a place to reconnect with old friends, meet new ones, and spend time with the people who make Nebraska home.
Whether you are showing livestock, enjoying a concert, watching a rodeo, or simply walking the fairgrounds with your family, the State Fair brings Nebraskans together and gives us a chance to celebrate what makes the Good Life so special.
Every year, the Nebraska State Fair reminds us that what makes our state exceptional is not just what we produce or where we live. But the hardworking, neighborly, and proud people who call Nebraska home. There is no better place to celebrate those people, our agricultural heritage, and the Good Life than the Nebraska State Fair.
