Taking Your Ideas to Washington
Over the past few weeks, I have hosted several public forums and held mobile office hours across the Third District. I appreciate all Nebraskans who came to these meetings to voice their opinions, ask questions, or learn more about an issue – and I can assure you I will be taking your ideas back to Washington, D.C. If we did not have an opportunity to meet in person, my office has many resources to keep you informed and help us stay connected.
My staff regularly hosts mobile offices across the Third District. When Congress is not in session in Washington, D.C., I make it a priority to attend these mobile offices as well. These meetings allow constituents to express their concerns about federal issues and agencies, and to learn about the services available through my office.
In addition to our mobile offices, I have launched a Caseworker in Your Community series. At these events, my congressional caseworkers work tirelessly to assist Nebraskans with federal issues such as Social Security, Medicare, Veterans Affairs, the Internal Revenue Service, and obtaining passports and visas.
My online office at https://AdrianSmith.house.gov is available 24/7 to Third District residents and features the latest policy news as well as information on public events and available services. On the website, you can share your opinion or ask a question by sending me an email. You can also sign up for my weekly e-newsletter to have updates and surveys sent directly to your inbox.
For those on social media, my Twitter feed provides up-to-the-minute updates on what I am working on in both Nebraska and Washington, D.C. Twitter also gives me real-time feedback from Nebraskans on policy issues and district events. Please take a moment to follow me at www.twitter.com/RepAdrianSmith.
Additionally, I host telephone town hall meetings regularly to stay in touch with Nebraskans from all corners of the Third District from the comfort of your home phone. This technology allows me to speak with thousands of constituents and take your questions. I often hear from Nebraskans how much they appreciate these calls, and I am grateful for the positive feedback. To sign up to be called for telephone town hall meetings, please send me an email through my website with your name, street address (including zip code), and telephone number.
The Committee on Ways and Means, of which I am a member, is also making it easier to share your stories and ideas on issues such as tax reform and Social Security. Right now, the Committee is calling on individuals, businesses, and organizations to share their perspective about how best to fix the Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) fund, which without major reforms is on course to go bankrupt in 2016. Comments and suggestions can be sent as a PDF attachment to ImproveDI@mail.house.gov.
Again, thank you to all who have shared your ideas with me either in person or through phone calls, letters, emails, and social media. Your stories, examples, and questions help me to better serve as your representative in Washington as we work to improve our government and tackle the challenges our country faces. I hope you will keep in touch.
