Community Project Funding Requests

Washington, D.C. - The office of Rep. Adrian Smith (R-NE) announced the process for Third District communities and public entities to apply for Fiscal Year 2026 (FY26) Community Project Funding (CPF).
FY26 funding is limited and not all eligible requests will be funded.
In order to be considered for funding, CPF applications must meet criteria established by the House Appropriations Committee. Projects must have a clear federal nexus as part of a legislatively authorized program, must have demonstrated community support, may not be directed to for-profit entities, and may not be commemorative in nature, among other criteria. Projects receiving funding may be subject to audit by the Government Accountability Office.

Approved by the Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy (NDEE), the project will ensure compliance with state standards and strengthen the community’s water system resilience.

This funding will go toward the full restoration of both tunnels.

Project Explanation: Road 6 in Hamilton County is a 24-mile county road which stretches across the entire county from East to West. This project would allow the county to convert this stretch of gravel road into asphalt road surface for a safer and more efficient roadway for transportation use.

Part of the project is to extend the sewer force main to the lagoon and eliminate the gravity line.

Given the safety concerns associated with maintaining a 26’ deep confined space, it is strongly recommended that the City commence planning for upgrades to the lift station, transitioning to an above-ground vault and discontinuing the use of the drywell.

The goal of a new structure would be to eliminate the contamination of the Village’s potable water and at the same time increase the communities water pressure. The recent violation report for their Public Water System (PWS) was for E. coli. It is the responsibility of the PWS to provide quality water at reasonable quantities to the people of the community.

With these funds, Western Community College and Northeast Community College would increase access to the CDL Truck Driving program by purchasing tractors, trailers, shifting simulators, and fill faculty trainer positions to offer the Class A and Class B CDL training necessary to get more commercial driver's license professionals on the road earning high wages. Truck Driving is an essential career that is necessary for the movement of goods to maintain quality of life in Nebraska and this program would increase training in more communities across northern and western Nebraska where the demand is great and has gone unfilled due to capacity issues.
