Smith Votes Against President Obama’s Executive Actions on Immigration
Congressman Adrian Smith (R-NE) released the following statement today after voting against the Senate Amendment to H.R. 240, the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act of 2015.
“More than 45 days ago, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill to fully fund the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) while stopping President Obama’s executive actions on immigration. Unfortunately, Senate Democrats blocked debate on the House bill and instead sent back to the House a DHS funding bill which does nothing to stop the President’s unconstitutional actions.
“Nebraskans have asked Congress to stand against President Obama’s immigration power grab. I am deeply disappointed partisan disagreements have prevented the House from using its constitutional authority to enforce checks and balances on the President’s unilateral orders. Without specific language prohibiting his immigration actions, the President will undoubtedly continue to bypass Congress and defy both the will of the American people and the rule of law.”
