Smith Statement on Budget Deal
Congressman Adrian Smith (R-NE) released the following statement today after voting against the budget deal.
“The funding decisions we make today will shape the future for our children and grandchildren,” Smith said. “The budget deal we considered this morning does not take the necessary steps to rein in our national debt. From raising spending caps by $300 billion to pushing off crucial decisions on the debt ceiling for another year, I could not support the deal.
“I have consistently voted against giving Washington a blank check with no reforms – we owe the American people greater responsibility in the way we budget and govern. As our congressional agenda moves forward, I will continue to work on solutions to get our country’s fiscal house in order.”
